Swansea now favourites to sign Crystal Palace wonderkid on loan

Swansea City are attempting to complete a move to sign Crystal Palace youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi amid competition.

Rak-Sakyi is set to be recalled from Rizespor in Turkey, where he scored four goals across 11 appearances in the Super Lig.

Despite a stunning stint that saw the winger net 15 goals and provide eight assists in the 2022-23 League One season for Charlton, his progression has slowed in recent years.

Palace are considering selling Rak-Sakyi, with the England youth international now 23 and no closer to breaking into Oliver Glasner‘s team.

Rangers had attempted to sign Rak-Sakyi in the summer, but that move’s failure led to the youngster being loaned out to Turkey.

Swansea City enter race to sign Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Palace looked to have found the next instalment of Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze, when Rak-Sakyi ripped up League One with Charlton.

The Addicks did not even make it to the play-offs, but the winger had caught so many eyes for his superb performances.

Rak-Sakyi started the following season well in the mix at Palace, featuring and impressing in six Premier League games before disaster struck.

A serious hamstring injury kept the forward out of the Palace squad until late April 2024, when he returned to the bench but did not appear.

Last season saw Rak-Sakyi get back on track with Sheffield United in the Championship, but his prospects of a starting role with the Eagles appear to be dashed.

Darren Witcoop reported on Tuesday that Swansea are emerging as favourites to sign the 23-year-old on loan this month.

What Chris Wilder said about Rak-Sakyi

Sheffield United were extremely pleased to get a deal done for Rak-Sakyi in the summer of 2024, considering the hype surrounding the youngster.

Following his debut against Watford, manager Chris Wilder said: “In our pitch I said how important Bramall Lane was.

“There were two £15m bids for him and three-quarters of the Championship sides in for him as well. Part of the pitch was him feeling what he felt today.”

“He is going to be a player,” Wilder added. “There were two big bids for him to Crystal Palace, one out of our division and one out of the Premier League. We beat off a whole host of Championship clubs.

And the Blades were rewarded for their faith in the youngster, who scored seven goals and provided two assists for Wilder’s team.

He will now hope to return to the Championship with a similar impact, with Swansea looking likely to be the team that benefits.
