PL club joins Rangers and Celtic in hunt for Championship attacker – report

By James Black

Swansea City have joined Rangers and Celtic in the race for St. Mirren attacker Lewis Morgan, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claims that the Premier League side could swoop in January for the Scottish Championship winger – who is out of contract at the end of this season.

It is understood that a £200,000 bid from Burton Albion was rejected for Morgan, 20, while Cardiff are also keen on acquiring his services.

Morgan has scored four times in nine games this season for the Buddies, helping them to top spot in the Championship.

The Scotland Under-21 star joined St. Mirren in 2012 from Rangers Academy and made his first-team debut in August 2014.

He has gone on to make a total of 85 appearances for the Paisley side as they attempt to win promotion back to the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers spent the summer chasing Hearts winger Jamie Walker – failing to get a deal done on deadline day – and Portuguese loanee Dalcio has struggled to make any impact at Ibrox so far so Morgan is exactly the kind of player they have been looking for.

Football Insider verdict

Morgan could be a good addition to Pedro Caixinha’s squad. It’s clear he’s still looking for another winger and Morgan could prove a shrewd signing. He has a decent goalscoring record and looks to be a fairly direct player and would suit the likes of summer signing Alfredo Morelos. If Swansea make an early bid in January, it’ll be interesting to see Rangers’ response and if it prompts a bid from Ibrox. An ex-Rangers youngster which could hold some appeal to Morgan to return and prove a point, while this is something that could also see Celtic forced out of the running.
