Swiss media respond excitedly to Nottingham Forest star Dan Ndoye’s display vs Jordan

Dan Ndoye has been lauded for his performance away from Nottingham Forest on Sunday as Switzerland beat Jordan 4-1.

The winger added a second after Breel Embolo had opened the scoring, before Granit Xhaka and Christian Fassnacht scored to render Odeh Al-Fakhouri’s goal a consolation.

Ndoye has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, scoring just twice for Nottingham Forest since making the £34million switch from Bologna.

The 25-year-old clearly has talent and is tied down at the City Ground until 2030, so decision-makers will not be in a rush to make a drastic decision.

Nottingham Forest transfer chiefs will hope that a positive World Cup tournament with Switzerland can set Ndoye up for a strong season.

Swiss media hail Dan Ndoye

Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Nottingham Forest are reluctant to sell Ndoye this summer, despite mounting interest in Italy.

The winger scored nine goals and provided six assists in his last season for Bologna, with the likes of Roma keen to see him recreate it.

But Nottingham Forest will refuse to sell the 25-year-old on a cut-price deal – mainly because of the loss they would make, but also because of his potential.

Sunday’s match was yet another reminder of Ndoye’s talent, which can be unlocked with the right environment and manager.

While the winger struggled to adapt to the Premier League, he also had several injury issues throughout the season and was unable to build any momentum.

Against Jordan, he looked to have gained exactly that. His goal was taken with supreme confidence, rolling the ball past Yazeed Abulaila and into the back of the net.

Swiss publication Blue Win gave the winger a five rating – their second strongest – and wrote: “With a strong individual effort, he immediately created the first scoring opportunity for the national team, but then shot wide from a good position.

“He did better in the 33rd minute, remaining composed in front of goal and scoring to make it 2-0. He’s a constant threat.

Ndoye has the tools to thrive under Vitor Pereira

Ndoye has the physical attributes to make it in the Premier League. The forward is rapid, and by no means easy to shrug off the ball.

The mental side is there too. His run for his goal on Sunday was excellent, and the 25-year-old is clearly an intelligent player.

The key ingredient Ndoye appears to be lacking is confidence. When the Switzerland international returns from the World Cup, it will be Vitor Pereira’s job to bring that confidence out.

Do that, and Nottingham Forest may well have an extremely good player on their hands.
