Talks ongoing: Leeds making headway in effort to replace Wood – reliable journalist

By Danny Wright

Leeds are in talks with several striker targets, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Lee Sobot claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Whites are in discussions with multiple forwards as they look to make headway in the mission to fill the void left by Chris Wood when he completed his £15million switch to Burnley last week.

Dutch striker Jay-Roy Grot has sinced been snapped up by the Whites, but it seems that Thomas Christiansen and Andrea Radrizzani still have plans to further bolster their attack force before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday night.

The Mail has previously reported that Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga is on Leeds’ radar as a potential replacement for New Zealand international Wood while Swedish publication Fotbollskanalen claims that Malmo attacker Pawel Cibicki is attracting strong interest from the Yorkshire outfit.

Sobot added on Twitter that while both Lasogga and Cibicki are being looked at, Preston forward Jordan Hugill is not a target that the club are pursuing at this moment in time.

Football Insider Verdict

Leeds have limited time to find a new striker now and every day that passes without a breakthrough, will no doubt cause fans to sweat that extra bit more. Lasogga and Ciwicki are interesting prospects but it remains to be seen whether or not they will replace the 20 or more goals that Wood would have likely scored this season. It’s a good job the club aren’t actually pursuing Hugill either. The Preston forward has similar attributes and characteristics to Wood, but ultimately it is his record in front of goal that lets him down. The Whites have the money to spend and it’s likely that Wood’s replacement will be someone from continental Europe rather than in England.

In other Leeds news, the club have made a decision on what to do with this Garry Monk favourite after he aroused interest from a Championship rival.
