Talks underway: Benitez working to lure ‘lieutenant’ De Miguel to Everton
Rafael Benitez is in talks to lure his longstanding “lieutenant” and ex-Liverpool man Paco de Miguel to Everton, Football Insider understands.
The newly-appointed Goodison boss wants De Miguel alongside him in the dugout ahead of the new Premier League season.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that Benitez is trying to persuade his fellow Spaniard to link up with him at a seventh club.

Their association stretches back to 2007, when De Miguel was appointed to the backroom staff at Liverpool.
The pair have subsequently worked together at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid and Newcastle, as well as during Benitez’s most recent managerial stint with Chinese outfit Dalian Pro.
De Miguel would take on the role of fitness coach at Everton, but his significance extends beyond finetuning players’ conditions.
Benitez has previously explained how De Miguel also controls the training sessions and is a key member of his coaching think tank.
His potential hire will not affect the position of Duncan Ferguson, who is staying on as assistant manager under Benitez.
Everton have places to fill on the coaching staff after Carlo Ancelotti’s exit early last month.

The Italian had an extensive backroom team that included fitness coach Manuel Morabito, Francesco Mauri as head of physical conditioning and Mino Fulco as a performance recovery specialist.
All three left when Ancelotti departed as well as his son Davide, who was the assistant manager along with Ferguson.
In other news, the “incredible” Everton asking price for player with “serious attitude problem” has stunned pundit.
