Talks underway: Warburton jets in to seal Rangers transfer – report
By Alex Stevens
Mark Warburton has flown to London to hold talks with a Rangers target, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun and talkSPORT host Jim White claim the Ibrox manager is currently in the English capital as he aims to secure a new signing.
The identity of the player was not confirmed by either source as Warburton seemingly attempts to strengthen a squad that has faltered badly in recent times.
Scot White, who also presents on Sky Sports News, is known for being close to Warburton as well as a transfer expert.
Warburton is under growing pressure at Rangers after overseeing a campaign in which his team have failed to offer a credible challenge to bitter rivals Celtic.
The runaway Scottish Premiership leaders have opened up a mammoth 27-point gap over their cross-city neighbours, who slipped to third in the table behind Aberdeen after a thrashing at Hearts and a draw against minnows Ross County.
Rangers took advantage of the loan market to make two temporary signings in the January window, with Jon Toral joining from Arsenal and Emerson Hyndman arriving from Bournemouth.
It is possible the Scottish giants could recruit ahead of the summer transfer window, as they would be able to sign a free agent who is not contracted to another club.
Rangers have been widely criticised for their recruitment last summer when they signed a string of players who have failed to fire, including Joey Barton, Philippe Senderos, Niko Kranjcar and Joe Garner.
Intriguingly, the Scottish Sun report that Rangers’ head of recruitment Frank McParland is set to quit the club because he is disappointed at the transfer budget.
It is said that a number of English clubs are interested in the scout’s services and that has caused him to think about his future.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club’s senior star is looking for an exit after abuse from fans.
