‘talkSPORT scaremongering over Tottenham transfers is complete nonsense’
Disappointment at Tottenham’s summer transfer window has been hugely overplayed despite them having missed out on key targets.
After a mixed 2024-25 season, the Lilywhites look to improve their woeful league form next year, taking inspiration from their Europa League winning campaign.
In his first season in north London, Ange Postecoglou restored faith amongst Spurs fans following the dire, backwards football of Antonio Conte.
The Australian led his side to a fifth-place finish, which could have been higher had there been fewer injuries.
The trend of a squad plagued by injuries was even worse last season, with several key absentees, leading to playing without a recognised centre-back at times.
Postecoglou’s Europa League victory was unfortunately not enough to keep his job, due to his appalling domestic campaign, as Daniel Levy turned to Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
The Dane has already bolstered his side with the additions of West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, but some believe Spurs have had a disappointing transfer window thus far.

Tottenham ‘need reinforcements’ say talkSPORT
Speaking on talkSPORT (28 July), journalist Alex Crook felt the Lilywhites have gone “under the radar” with their poor transfer window in the wake of target Morgan Gibbs-White signing a new deal at Nottingham Forest.
Crook said: “It’s gone a bit under the radar but, it’s not been a great summer so far for Thomas Frank because they were interested in Christian Norgaard, obviously he’s gone to Arsenal.
“[Morgan] Gibbs-White, now, is staying at Forest, they made a play for Bryan Mbeumo but I think he only ever wanted to go to Manchester United.
“Talk of Yoane Wissa but Brentford digging in there. I think he needs some reinforcements Thomas Frank because Ange Postecoglou admitted last season they struggled with that squad to balance playing in the Premier League and the Europa League.
“And, of course, they’ve got Champions League football next season.”
Thomas Frank’s squad in good place
The thoughts on Spurs’ transfer window is utter nonsense given they didn’t mention the current player base available to Frank.
The permanent signings of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso have already bolstered the squad, as well as the aforementioned Kudus who will challenge for a spot on Spurs’ flanks.
Across the pitch there is depth in all positions with particular emphasis on the centre-back spot given the injuries in the position last season.
Behind first-choice centre-halves Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are four defenders all capable of playing in the middle of the defence, both young and experienced.

Moreover, the new manager will bring a brand of football far different to Postecoglou’s gung-ho approach which led to a dire trend of injuries.
This even stemmed from his time at Celtic, according to sports scientist Anton McElhone who worked with Postecoglou in Scotland and London, speaking to BBC Sport [21 January).
The new Spurs boss operates far more tactically, adapting his side depending on the opponent which will lead to less frenetic and injury-inducing running.

Indeed, the Lilywhites have missed out on signings, but their failings are nothing compared to that of Newcastle, who desperately need new players as they play more fixtures with the addition of Champions League football.
The Magpies failed to bring in Joao Pedro who joined Chelsea and James Trafford who is expected to sign for Man City, as per Fabrizio Romano (28 July), amongst other missed opportunities.
Therefore, talkSPORT’s conclusions failed to take into consideration the current Tottenham squad with the missed transfer targets simply a bonus if they were to be pinched.
The highlighted targets were not a necessity, but in reality, extra additions that would’ve been welcomed.
