Tammy Abraham sends Jadon Sancho ‘respect’ message amid Chelsea decision

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Jadon Sancho, with former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham hitting back at the winger’s critics.

The Manchester United loanee scored the third goal, as Chelsea beat Real Betis 4-1 in Wroclaw to win the Europa Conference League final.

Enzo Maresca’s side fell behind in the first half, but Cole Palmer produced five minutes of magic in the second period to turn the game around, first assisting Enzo Fernandes and then Nicolas Jackson.

The result was put beyond doubt when Sancho curled into the top corner, before Moises Caicedo put the icing on the cake in stoppage time.

Abraham supports Sancho amid criticism

Sancho has recieved criticism from Chelsea fans during his loan spell, with the attacker struggling to string together a consistent run of good performances.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals and picked up nine assists in all competitions, since his move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Former Blues forward Abraham has been in a number of England squads with Sancho, and was quick to support the winger after his goal in the Conference League final.

Taking to Instagram (28 May), Abraham posted a video of the former Borussia Dortmund man’s strike, with the caption: “Put respect on the name, @sancho.”

Sancho’s future in doubt

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Sancho is one of five players Man United are looking to offload this summer.

Should Chelsea decide they don’t want Sancho, they would have to pay United £5million, due to an obligation clause in the loan agreement.

The former England international showed his quality in the Conference League final against Betis, chopping in on his right foot and curling a beautiful strike into the top corner.

However, these moments of magic have been few and far between during his time at Stamford Bridge, as well as when he’s been in a Red Devils shirt.

With Chelsea securing Champions League football ahead of next season, they will have to be ruthless in order to build a squad that can sustain a high level of performance across multiple competitions.

It isn’t ideal that Maresca’s side have to pay a fee to cancel the obligation to buy, but they may have to bite the bullet if they feel there are better wide options elsewhere.
