‘Thanks and farewell’ – Man City told to finalise ‘amazing’ Lucas Paqueta deal after new bid

West Ham must accept the inevitable and allow Man City to sign Lucas Paqueta.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie believes that West Ham should allow the Brazilian international to leave the club this summer.

The Manchester giants had a £70million-plus offer for the 25-year-old rejected by the Hammers last week and have now submitted a new £80m+ bid.

Paqueta cost the Londoners a club-record reported fee of £51million when he joined from French giants Lyon last summer

The Brazil international signed a five-year deal upon his arrival at the London Stadium – and that contract can be extended a further 12 months by West Ham.

With a potential transfer on the cards, McAvennie believes that Paqueta deserves a move to a Champions League side.

“I think he is an amazing talent,” he told Football Insider.

“I knew when I first saw him he’s going to go to a Champions League side.

“He doesn’t want to pass it sideways and backwards.

“You could see when West Ham started playing the front foot and he just come in to his own and he started to show that he is a wonderful talent.

“He’s one of these Brazilians that you’re going to have faith in again because there’s a few players of the same profile that come over and you’re thinking, well, they’ve not done it, but he has succeeded.

“I would have liked him to give us another year and then move on,but it’s not going to happen and you just got to say thanks and farewell and move on as he has already won is a trophy.

“He’s that good that it would be almost impossible to keep him.”
