‘That Is A Huge Miss’ – Exclusive: Pundit view on Leeds injury news pre-Everton
Record-signing Rodrigo Moreno will be a “huge miss” for Leeds United tonight as he prepares to miss the clash against Everton, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites forward and boyhood Elland Road fan admitted he has been left frustrated by the “stop-start” nature of the Spain international’s Leeds career.
Rodrigo was forced off early in the first half of Leeds’ 3-1 win over high-flying Leicester City on Sunday and was replaced by Mateusz Klich.
Marcelo Bielsa confirmed in his press conference on Monday ahead of the visit of Everton that the forward had been sent for a scan on his groin.
He all but ruled out the club-record signing as he admitted the player’s condition was “worrying”.
The 29-year-old then took to Instagram to confirm he had been hit with a “minor setback” and he was working hard to return to action.
“I thought Pablo Hernandez would’ve been the ready-made replacement but he saw Mateusz Klich as that player who was going to come on,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“I didn’t even realise he was on the pitch until he got injured.
“It was only a bad ball from Alioski and his trailing leg was stretching and you could see the way he went down holding his groin.
“But that is a huge miss for us. Again, another new signing, record signing as well, that we don’t have at our disposal.
“We really need these players, even though we’re looking comfortable in the league. We really wanted to get some longevity out of him this season to really see what he’s got and what he’s made of.
“It’s really been stop-start for Rodrigo. Coming in after not being in the side, covid when he gets in the side then he’s back in and now he’s back out again.
“It’s been a very mixed bag for Rodrigo.”
In other news, Danny Mills has been left fretting over a Leeds United star’s “psychological” state after a recent development.
