‘That wasn’t football’ – Rodgers rages over one thing after Celtic win v Hearts

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was unhappy despite his side’s 3-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.

The Hoops manager was particularly displeased with the state of the Tynecastle pitch, which he felt ruined the game as a spectacle, as the grass on the pitch was far too long.

“We dominated the match, but, from the point of view of spectators, that wasn’t football,” he said, as quoted by the Scotsman.

“I’m talking about youngsters and gifted players in their team who can’t dribble or pass it because of the grass.”

Hearts kept their grass long as it worked back in December when they defeated the Hoops 4-0 at Tynecastle, but the Hoops managed to adapt to it on Sunday and were worthy winners of the game.

It is odd to see the Hoops boss so fired up about a pitch of all things, it seemed to irritate him even more than the alleged stamp on Hoops captain Scott Brown by Steven Naismith. Still, the Hoops did manage to take to the conditions, and the length of the grass wasn’t able to prevent Tom Rogic’s sublime pass to set up Moussa Dembele for the Hoops’ all important second goal. So despite the conditions at Tynecastle the Hoops march on, and fans will have been pleased with the victory as it was a measure of revenge after the Edinburgh side ended the Hoops unbeaten run in back in December with an emphatic 4-0 victory. That result changed the nature of the Hoops team going forward, it lead to the emergence of Kristoffer Ajer as a first-team regular, and in a strange way it could be the most important result of the season for the Bhoys, as it spurred them on for the rest of the year.
