Alan Shearer makes bold Arsenal title-winning call

Arsenal’s win caught the attention of many in the footballing world, with Mikel Arteta’s team also picking up their fourth clean sheet in seven Premier League matches.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, co-host Alan Shearer gave Arteta and his men plaudits for their tremendous start to the season.

Shearer said: “I’ve been mightily impressed with Arsenal and even yesterday, the way Odegaard went off and the quality that came on, [Martin] Zubimendi, which then pushed [Declan] Rice a little bit further forward, he got the goal.

Arsenal have scored nine goals and conceded just two in their last five games

“I don’t know whether you saw the graphic that we had on Match of the Day, that when West Ham beat Arsenal last February at the Emirates, when you looked at Arsenal’s bench, there’s only two players from the nine that are left from that bench.

“And then you look at the bench they had yesterday, when they’re bringing the likes of Zubimendi on, who cost, I don’t know, 40 or 50 million quid.

“That’s the difference for Arsenal. When you look at their squad this year and who they’ve got to come in when they do get injuries or when they need to change the game and make something happen, that’s the difference for them this year. They’re bringing quality on.”

Danny Murphy echoes Alan Shearer’s title-winning sentiments

Shearer wasn’t the only pundit to bestow title expectations on Arteta’s side, either, with Danny Murphy also speaking highly of Arsenal.

Murphy, speaking on Match of the Day on Sunday, said: “I think he’s [Arteta] got the best toolkit he’s ever had in terms of depth and quality in all areas of the pitch.

“They’re not worried in defence anymore because of the two centre halves they’ve brought in. They’ve got so much talent in attacking areas, and they’ve had injuries already, and there’s been no problem.

“They look organised, they look full of confidence, and I don’t see what excuse they could have for not winning it [Premier League] this time,” Murphy finished.

Arsenal’s quality has no doubt improved, and the summer additions they have made have propelled them from title outsiders to firm title favourites.
