The biggest boots to fill: Newcastle’s five greatest strikers since Shearer

1. Demba Ba

Appearances: 59 – Goals: 28

While others on this list might have enjoyed periods of exceptional form, no one quite managed to demonstrate the consistency that Demba Ba managed.

A striker with an all-round ability, the Senegalese forward was dubbed a risky signing considering his injury history, but he blew away any doubters with his natural goal scoring ability.

From headers to poachers goals to fierce strikes, Ba had it all, and was another key factor in the club’s brilliant fifth-placed finish in the 2011/12 season.

Few would argue that Ba has been the best striker since Shearer, and the fans would have loved to see him spend longer at St James’ Park.
