‘The end of an error’- Leeds fans react on Twitter to confirmed defender exit

By Abigail Withey

Leeds have confirmed the departure of centre-back Guiseppe Bellusci after his contract with the Championship outfit was terminated.

The 27-year-old moved to Elland Road from Catania in 2014 for a fee close to £3 million and fell out of favour with previous manager Steve Evans as well as the fans at the club after a number of public spats.

The defender made a total of 61 appearances for the Whites but the controversial player was handed 26 yellow cards and two reds throughout all competitions which frustrated supporters.

Leeds announced the news on their official Twitter account on Tuesday and stated that the Italian’s contract had been terminated by “mutual consent”.

Fans took to social media to express their delight at the departure of the centre-back with some supporters even stating that it was the best news of the transfer window.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

There has been mounting speculation over Bellucci’s future at Elland Road over the past few months which was heightened when the centre-back was left out of the United squad for their domestic friendly match against North Ferriby last Wednesday.

The Italian is the Championship outfit’s fourth permanent departure of the summer after Charlie Taylor went to Burnley, Jordan Botaka moved to Sint-Truiden and Ross Turnbull exited as a free agent.

New boss Thomas Christiansen has made a huge impact at the club since joining in June and has taken the Whites’ recruit total up to nine so far as he hopes to guide Leeds to promotion during the next season.

In other Leeds transfer news, they are in the hunt to sign a 22-year-old defender from Everton.
