‘The standard’ – Adam Wharton reacts to Marc Guehi’s confirmed Crystal Palace news

Crystal Palace players have joined in reaction to an announcement involving Marc Guehi amid speculation around his future.

Guehi looked set to join Liverpool on deadline day but a move was blocked by Oliver Glasner, following concerns of selling the captain without a replacement.

Despite the uncertainty, he has performed admirably, as he now enters the final few months of his current contract.

With that comes more competition for Liverpool as Football Insider revealed Chelsea and Man City are also interested in Guehi, alongside Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Despite the transfer talk, the defender’s consistency and leadership have been recognised by Crystal Palace on social media.

Crystal Palace reward Marc Guehi with player of the month

Crystal Palace posted on social media that Guehi has been awarded the club’s player of the month following his dominant performances at the back for August.

The club announced the news on Instagram with the caption: “Setting the standard . Congratulations to Marc Guehi who is crowned your NET88 Player of The Month for August”.

The post saw plenty of reaction from his teammates as Adam Wharton and Daniel Munoz both shared appreciation by liking the post.

However, despite his performances, reports suggested that some Palace players were left unsettled by the handling of Guehi’s blocked move to Anfield.

Football Insider had revealed Guehi had his heart set on a move to Liverpool, and would have rejected approaches from interested clubs such as Newcastle and Tottenham.

Still, he has continued to impress, and Palace have continued to recognise their captain’s influence on the pitch.
