The two players Man City would have to sell to fund Vinicius Junior signing

Manchester City would have to make some major sales in order to fund a move for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior.

Vinicius Jr has been linked with Man City in recent days, with rumours about his long-term future in the Spanish capital swirling.

The Brazilian’s current contract with Xabi Alonso’s side runs until the end of the 2026-27 season.

It means that next summer could be Real Madrid’s last opportunity to cash in on the winger before they risk losing him on a free.

Jack Grealish and one other Man City sale could fund Vinicius Jr move

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Man City would have to sell two of their current squad to fund a move for Vinicius Jr.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Pep Guardiola’s side would have to offload Jack Grealish on a permanent basis, as well as accept a £50million offer for Jeremy Doku.

Doku has impressed for Man City so far this season, already picking up three assists in the Premier League.

However, Wyness says that Vinicius Jr would be an upgrade on the Belgian international.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “You’d have to look at who City might sell in terms of bringing Vini Jr. in there.

“Now, if he’s going to go on the left wing, that would mean that Grealish won’t be coming back, so they’d probably be making sure that he was sold. Whether that’s going to be the full £50m that Everton have got the option to buy for, we don’t know.

“Let’s say he went for £35m, £40m, then I think you’d have to look at Doku, who has impressed me a lot this year. I really like his style, but I think that Vini Jr would be an upgrade. He’s probably got more goals in him.

“Doku may even command a £50m fee, because I think he’s a talented player. So if you look at those two together, then that’s where the funds would come from, to free up money in that position to get somebody like Vini Jr.”

Man City face competition for another winger

Meanwhile, Man City are set to face competition in the race for Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, sources have told Football Insider.

Guardiola’s side have been after the 16-year-old for a number of months, but have so far failed to get a deal over the line.

Now, sources say that their rivals Manchester United have joined the race for the Leicester man.

Monga is the latest young star on the Red Devils’ radar as they continue plans to build their squad for the future.
