‘There’s a possibility’ – Rodgers makes claim about Celtic treble hopes

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has claimed that winning a domestic treble this season would be an even bigger feat than when the Hoops clinched the achievement last season.

The Bhoys are on the verge of making history as being the first Scottish side to win the treble two years running, as the Betfred Cup has been won, the league title almost won and a Scottish Cup semi-final with Rangers to look forward to.

Rodgers firmly believes that if a treble is won this year it would be a far greater achievement that any other statements made by his side.

“If it was to be done this year it would be better,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“It’s incredible really to think that is the case but actually there’s a possibility of it.

“But you can’t emotionally look too deep into it. That’s the other thing. But there’s no doubt that if we finish this season with that it trumps last year’s. No doubt.”

The Hoops have a 10 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a game in hand as they prepare to face bottom of the table Ross County at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Football Insider verdict

An aspect which Rodgers hasn’t mentioned in his quotes is the fact that the Hoops haven’t played anywhere near the quality of football that they did last season, as they have struggled with injuries and players going out of form at various stages of the season. With that in mind, it is easy to understand why the Northern Irishman believes that a treble won this season would trump the one that was won by the Hoops last season. Of course, there is still a bit to do yet for the Hoops to even think about this unprecedented feat, but with his players on the verge of making history, Rodgers will want his side to up their performance levels from Saturday’s match against Ross County going forward.
