These were the scenes last time Wrexham faced Chelsea as FA Cup fifth-round meeting confirmed
Wrexham are now set to welcome Chelsea to the SToK Cae Ras for an exciting FA Cup fifth-round clash next month.
Ryan Reynolds was with Hollywood star Hugh Jackman as the draw was announced, with the Red Dragons hosting their second Premier League side of the term after beating Nottingham Forest in the third round.
Phil Parkinson‘s side beat Ipswich Town to advance from round four, with Josh Windass’ 34th-minute goal enough to set up the tie, with Chelsea thrashing Hull City on their side of the draw.
The Championship side will be hoping for another dramatic upset in the FA Cup, having knocked Forest out on penalties, with only a few teams lower ranked left in the prestigious tournament.
Wrexham have some explosive history with Chelsea
This will not be the first time that Wrexham and the Blues have faced off, but it will be the first time that it has been in a competitive manner since 1982.
Last time they met, it was a friendly fixture in America during the summer of 2024, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw, thanks to goals from Christopher Nkunku, Luke Bolton, Jack Marriott and Lesley Ugochukwu.
Despite it just being a warm-up game before the 2024-25 season, there was absolutely nothing friendly about it, with things kicking off just two minutes into proceedings.
Within moments, James McClean and Levi Colwill had each other by the throat, sparking after the Wrexham man left a late foot on the Chelsea defender, and all hell broke loose.
Have Wrexham and Chelsea met before this huge clash?
There is plenty of history between 1979 and 1982, with Chelsea winning four, drawing three and losing two, mostly in the league, but also three games in the FA Cup.
Before the clash between Colwill and McClean, however, their last meeting was a 5-0 thrashing for the Blues back in the summer of 2023.
Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Nkunku and Ben Chilwell were all on target, with the former bagging a first-half brace, but those are the only two meetings since the 1980’s.
