Exclusive: Brown makes Everton transfer claim amid Ancelotti striker dilemma

Michael Brown claims that Everton need to sign a new centre-forward but Carlo Ancelotti must solve a key tactical dilemma up front.

The former Premier League midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Italian boss will be weighing up if he wants to continue playing with two strikers next season.

Since taking charge, Ancelotti has regularly lined up with a strike partnership of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in a 4-4-2 formation.

However, Brown believes that the Toffees boss will have to decide whether he wants to continue playing two up front before finalising his transfer plans.

“You would look and you would say do they need a bit of strength in depth and you would probably say yes, they need another striker,” Brown told Football Insider.

“It will be interesting to see going forward whether they stick with that 4-4-2 formation with Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison or will he change that system, would he maybe go with a front three?

“I think that’s where he has to look and say where can he get the best out of his squad, where can he improve it?

“They probably do need strength in depth to improve, we can all see that, and they’ll be looking to improve in all the areas, I’m sure.”

Everton have the ninth-best attacking record in the Premier League this season, scoring 37 goals in 29 appearances.

Calvert-Lewin has netted 13 of those strikes, while Richarlison has chipped in with a further 10.
