Thiago Alcantara could be out for ‘weeks’ after Liverpool injury update – pundit
Frank McAvennie fears Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be sidelined for “a couple of weeks”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker said 31-year-old was starting to prove himself in the Premier League last season.
Thiago was forced off in the second half of the Merseyside club’s opening Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday (6 August).
Jurgen Klopp’s side laboured to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.
Speaking to club media (6 August), Klopp revealed the Anfield club are waiting to discover the extent of the Spaniard’s injury.
He added the injury is “not good” but insisted his side are “not panicking”.
When asked if a spell on the sidelines for Thiago would be a big blow to Liverpool, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think so.

“The whole of England was starting to see how good a player he is. He was controlling the game. He had big shoes to fill coming in to Liverpool and he had a big name, big reputation, but he’s come in and he pulls the strings.
“I’m hoping that it’s not too bad. Give him a couple of weeks to rest up and get back. If it’s not too bad you’ll hear the manager saying he doesn’t know how long – that means he’ll be back in a couple of weeks. If it’s going to be a bad one he’ll tell the truth and he’ll be out for a few months.“
