Thiago Alcantara: Fresh Liverpool fears raised after confession post-Man United – pundit
Alan Hutton has raised fears over Thiago Alcantara’s long-term availability for Liverpool after Tuesday night’s win over Manchester United.
The former Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, questioned whether the midfielder can play “week in, week out” for the Reds.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the 4-0 win over Manchester United, Jurgen Klopp branded the 31-year-old a “world-class” player.
However, he admitted Liverpool “have the make sure he is ready for as many games as possible” after a season hampered by injury and illness.
Hutton suggested the Brazilian’s fitness issues mean he may have to be saved for “certain games”.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Sometimes I watch him and I just think how? How exactly did you see that?
“I’m watching from the screen or the stadium and I didn’t see that. How have you seen that out on the pitch where everything’s moving 100-miles-an-hour?
“That’s the type of player he is. The thing moving forward is injuries have been a problem. Is he going to be a player that’s going to play week in, week out? Probably not.
“But I think there are certain games that he will play when you need something like that, a back door unlocked or whatever.
“He will suit certain games. He’s still got an awful lot to give. I’m sure if he can stay fit, it’s another player Jurgen Klopp will look to for certain games.”

Thiago has started 14 Premier League games for Liverpool so far this season.
He has missed games due to calf and hip injuries as well as a positive Coronavirus test.
