Thiago Alcantara: Pundit issues ‘massive’ Liverpool verdict after injury update in last 24 hours

Paul Robinson expects Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara to recover from injury in time for the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “it would be massive” if the 31-year-old is fit for the trip to Paris.

Thiago hobbled off after 45 minutes of Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Wolves on Sunday with an achilles problem.

Speaking to club media on Wednesday (25 May), Jurgen Klopp revealed the centre-midfielder has “a good chance” of recovering in time for Saturday’s final against Real Madrid.

Klopp claimed Thiago would train with the squad on Thursday.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “In a game like this his experience is invaluable.

“I expect he went off with half an eye on the Champions League. He will have wanted to give himself every opportunity.

“Liverpool were always going to win that game. If there was any kind of doubt over his fitness or ability to play at the weekend then he has done the right thing. He has given himself an opportunity to make it.

“It would be massive if he is fit because he’s been excellent this season. We have seen the best of him. He is one of the first names on the team sheet.

“To not have his quality on the field and leadership in the dressing room would be a big miss. I suspect we will see him though.”
