Thiago Silva responds to Trevoh Chalobah’s message after Chelsea beat Fluminense

Trevoh Chalobah received a gift from Thiago Silva after Chelsea sealed their place in the Club World Cup final with a win over Fluminense.

The Blues produced a composed display to secure a 2-0 victory against the Brazilian side and advanced to the Club World Cup final, with Joao Pedro delivering a dream debut.

The forward struck twice – one a superb curling effort from distance, the other a sharp finish to cap off a fast counter-attack.

Chalobah, however, found himself at the centre of a controversial moment in the match.

Fluminense were initially awarded a penalty for handball, only for the decision to be overturned following a VAR review. However, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes Chalobah should have been penalised for handball, which could have been crucial as it was before Chelsea scored their second goal.

After the match, Chalobah shared a post on Instagram directed at former teammate Thiago Silva, who now plays for Fluminense, marking the occasion with a respectful nod to the Brazilian veteran.

Trevoh Chalobah swaps shirts with Chelsea legend Thiago Silva

Chalobah shared a touching moment with former teammate Silva following Chelsea’s Club World Cup semi-final win over Fluminense as he showed that he swapped shirts with the veteran on social media.

The defender posted a picture on Instagram wearing Silva’s shirt, captioned simply: “Respect” alongside a salute emoji, and tagged the Brazilian defender.

Silva replied warmly in the comments saying “I love you mate.”

Silva spent four years at Stamford Bridge and became a firm fan favourite during his time at the club under numerous managers.

He has remained connected with the club after his departure, as Silva returned to Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea beat Brentford on 15 December last season.

The veteran centre-back made 155 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

Chelsea make decision on Trevoh Chalobah future amid transfer interest

Despite the high spirits, Chalobah’s future at Chelsea has been the subject of speculation this summer.

Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing Chalobah as they are considering defensive reinforcements, with Marc Guehi in his final year of his contract and a likely exit on the cards.

However, Football Insider revealed that Enzo Maresca is keen to keep Chalobah as part of his plans for next season.

The club are more open to selling other centre-backs, such as Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, both of whom have missed large parts of the season through injury.

With Chalobah featuring prominently during the Club World Cup campaign and earning the trust of the coaching staff, he could be set to stay at Stamford Bridge despite external interest.
