Thierno Barry: Manchester City brace shows why David Moyes must keep faith in Everton star

Thierno Barry netted a wonderful brace from the bench on Monday as Everton drew 3-3 against Manchester City.

The striker has long come under criticism since his summer move to Merseyside, with goals being difficult to come by.

However, he proved many of his doubters wrong at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after he netted twice in 26 minutes to ensure the hosts would earn at least a point.

Given their troubles up top, Everton have been targeting a new striker this summer transfer window.

Yet, David Moyes should instead keep some faith in Barry ahead of Everton’s new season.

David Moyes should keep Thierno Barry as first-teamer

While Everton undoubtedly need a new striker this summer, this should not mean that Barry is sidelined.

Despite a tricky start at the Toffees, he has shown plenty of signs that he can have a big impact.

This was evident on Monday, as a stunning performance means that he has now hit eight Premier League goals in his debut campaign.

Now that he has adapted to English football, he has the chance to truly cement himself as a star player and could easily net double-figure goals next season.

As a result, Moyes has to keep faith in the striker and should not sideline or sell him ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Which strikers are Everton linked to?

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Everton are interested in Ivan Toney ahead of the summer transfer window.

The former Brentford striker currently plays for Saudi side Al-Ahli after leaving the Premier League in 2024.

The England international has continued his form in the Middle East and is currently under contract until 2028.

Al-Ahli have no desire to lose their league’s leading goalscorer, but sources have indicated that Toney is still “very much open” to the idea of a return to the Premier League at this stage of his career.

So far this season, Toney has netted 37 goals in 45 games in all competitions and has also picked up 10 assists in what has been an excellent campaign.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Everton can bring in the striker, with a deal unlikely to be a cheap one for the 30-year-old.
