This Aston Villa record breaker must be sold immediately after baffling Steve Bruce decision
COMMENT by Amir Mir
After six months at Aston Villa, Ross McCormack’s time at the Championship club should be put to an end.
The 30-year-old has disgraced the club with his antics and manager Steve Bruce must sell the senior player immediately.
McCormack joined the Midlands side last summer from Fulham for a then Championship transfer record fee of £12million.
However, it is fair to say that the experienced striker has not lived up to his billing and in truth has been an absolute disastrous signing.
One the field McCormack has only scored three goals all season long and has looked like a struggling League One player.
Now, his manager Steve Bruce has revealed that the Scotsman failed to turn up to training last week because of his faulty gates as he slammed his player on his fitness and attitude.
It has been quite clear for months that McCormack had been unfit and unable to produce the goods for his promotion-chasing side – he has scored only one goal since September.
But it is baffling why Bruce decided over the last few months to continually pick the striker when he knew full well of his poor condition and lax attitude.
It is even more baffling why Bruce, sold striker Rudy Gestede during a month where star man Jonathan Kodjia was heading to the Africa Cup of Nations and McCormack was unfit to play.
McCormack should rightly be slated for his actions but Bruce must take responsibility for selecting the player who shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team.
Now, Villa are in a troublesome spot because at his moment in time they only have one recognised senior forward at the club in Gabby Agbonlahor.
This in a time where the club have not won a game in their last five matches and are currently nine points away from the play-off places.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club is in advanced talks to seal this midfielder and defender deals.
