This is who’s odds-on favourite to be Liverpool manager on 1 January

Liverpool secured a huge victory over West Ham on Sunday afternoon as they triumphed 2-0 at the London Stadium.

The Reds have had a dismal time of things recently in the Premier League, but goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo earned them a vital three points following back-to-back domestic defeats.

The walls have been closing in on Arne Slot at Liverpool of late, with Wednesday’s 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League piling yet more pressure on the boss.

There has been a huge amount of speculation surrounding the Dutchman’s future at Anfield in recent weeks, and there has also been plenty of unrest across the fanbase.

Arne Slot still expected to be Liverpool manager on 1 January

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 November that the Liverpool board are still backing Slot, and that is surely highly unlikely to change after Sunday’s victory.

The Reds climbed back into the top half of the Premier League table with the win, and Isak’s first goal since the Carabao Cup win over Southampton back in September was a welcome sweetener for them.

The Anfield faithful vented their frustration against PSV in midweek, when the final whistle was met by boos, but there will surely now be a far more positive feeling after their latest assignment.

Despite all the recent speculation surrounding a potential dismissal of Slot, he still remains the odds-on favourite to be the man in charge of Liverpool come New Year’s Day.

Andoni Iraola and Julian Nagelsmann follow closely behind, but neither boast odds as strong as the current boss at the moment.

Liverpool achieve four-game first in win vs West Ham

Pete O’Rourke has questioned whether the Liverpool players are still playing for Slot on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, and they promptly showed that they are this weekend.

The Reds produced a solid away performance in East London to claim all three points, and they notched their first clean sheet in four games.

Their last clean sheet came against Real Madrid at the start of November, but they have since developed a nasty habit of conceding poor goals.

Slot was always likely to live or die by his ability to work towards fixing that issue, and the latest signs are certainly positive for the boss in that respect.
