This may be real reason for dire Joe Aribo display v Celtic as fans say same thing – Rangers TV pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Joe Aribo is suffering from burnout after a disappointing performance for Rangers against Celtic.

The former Ibrox defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old looked “jaded” and “tired” in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat.

Aribo played the full 90 minutes against the Bhoys in what was his 46th appearance for the Gers this season.

The attacking midfielder has also played 10 times for Nigeria since September 2021.

Hutton admitted the number of games Aribo has played may be the reason for his indifferent form.

Asked if he thinks the midfielder may be suffering burnout, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think so.

“I was watching the game with a lot of friends who are Rangers fans and we all said the same thing, that he looked a bit jaded, a bit tired.

“You look at the amount of football that he’s played. A lot of pressure falls on his shoulders to go and produce. He can open that defence, he can see a pass and split a defence.

“A lot comes down to him, especially when teams are playing low blocks against Rangers. It’s up to him to try and open that door, so there’s been a lot of pressure on him.

“He’s been away at the AFCON and I think people forget that. They only see him turning up on a Saturday and say: ‘He’s played better.’

“Well, yes he has but you need to understand all the football that he’s played. It’s difficult to continuously try and churn out these performances week after week.

“Maybe he does need a rest. Unfortunately, when you’re at a big club, going for all these different trophies, you’ve got to be available every single week. It’s just part of it.”
