‘Thomas Frank, Marco Silva to do better as Postecoglou excuses run out at Tottenham’

Ange Postecoglou has run out of chances at Tottenham following the defeat to Fulham other Premier League managers are well-placed to replace him and do better, Henry Winter has claimed.

Following goals from Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon, and a third straight Premier League game without victory, the Australian has won just 48 per cent of his matches in charge since July 2023.

Tottenham supporters are becoming increasingly frustrated by Postecoglou, especially when he decides to make excuses for poor results rather than take ownership of his team’s awful performances.

Injuries, of course, have left his squad depleted for much of the season, but with the likes of Tottenham star centre-back Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven all returning, they should have come away from Craven Cottage with more than a defeat.

Mick Brown told Football Insider on Wednesday 12 March that Postecoglou could be sacked amid “worrying” signs from the Tottenham faithful, and possible replacements have already been named.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva have both been suggested as suitable successors in North London, and Winter believes either could be a good choice for Daniel Levy.

Ange Postecoglou running out of time in North London

Writing via his personal blog [17 March], Winter said: “Brentford’s clever, personable head coach, Thomas Frank, would do a better job at Tottenham Hotspur than Ange Postecoglou. Fulham’s Marco Silva would do a better job.

“So would many others. Spurs continue to drift further into mediocrity under Postecoglou. Maybe form will turn when his injured players are all back and have regained match fitness.

“But, really, Postecoglou has run out of excuses. With every utterance, he runs out of credibility. He risks becoming a divisive figure at Spurs, setting fans against each other.”

Daniel Levy to pull the rug from under Tottenham manager

Football Insider Verdict

With 51 per cent, 53 per cent and 54 per cent, respectively, Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Nuno Espirito Santo can all boast higher win records during their time with the Lilywhites.

Under Postecoglou, Spurs have slipped to 14th in the Premier League table and are 19 points closer to the relegation zone than they are to first-place Liverpool.

Daniel Levy is never in the business of losing money at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but with the team unable to compete in the Champions League since the 2022/23 season, that is exactly what will be happening on the pitch.

Many will argue that the owner’s lack of spending on the pitch is what is holding the club back from becoming a dominant force, but until Postecoglou can prove himself, there does not look to be any imminent pay packets on their way to the manager’s office.
