Thomas Frank to Crystal Palace update from inside source

Thomas Frank is a leading candidate for Crystal Palace as they continue to assess a number of potential replacements for Oliver Glasner.

The FA Cup holders’ search for a new manager has already begun after Glasner confirmed last month he would not be extending his stay at Selhurst Park.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Frank has quickly become one of the front-runners for the position.

The 52-year-old’s availability and Premier League experience has placed him high on their list despite what proved to be a nightmare spell at Tottenham.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Crystal Palace plan to approach Frank over the position come the end of the season.

Thomas Frank emerges as clear contender for Crystal Palace

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 11 February that Crystal Palace have already sounded out Frank to assess whether he would be interested in the role.

Third parties have been in contact regarding a potential move, with the Eagles accelerating plans as they hope to have somebody in line shortly after Glasner’s exit.

Following his dismissal at Tottenham, the potential of Frank joining Palace has shot up as he will now spend time out of the game before assessing his position in the summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously, Frank is now out of work and I’m sure he’ll be linked with a number of jobs, whether that’s in England or even abroad as well.

“Although the Tottenham move didn’t work out for him, his reputation is still pretty much in tact, he’s still very highly regarded in coaching circles for the work he did at Brentford.

“That’s what helped him get the Tottenham job in the first place, and he’s not the first manager to go in there and not be able to turn things around.

“Crystal Palace are looking at Frank due to his Premier League experience, and Frank himself might feel he has got a point to prove after the disappointing spell at Tottenham.

“If Palace are looking at replacements for Oliver Glasner, who is obviously leaving coming the end of the season, I’m sure Thomas Frank will be right up there.

“As I said he’s had the experience of Premier League and what he’s done with Brentford prior to that move to Tottenham.

“I think he’ll definitely be in the reckoning for that Palace job.”

Who else is in the running for the Crystal Palace job?

Palace started their search for a new manager earlier this season, before the boss confirmed his departure, with Steve Parish having been informed in October.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in December that Crystal Palace are preparing for the worst with regard to Glasner’s future.

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas is on Palace’s radar, while they have also considered Raya Vallecano’s Inigo Perez among a number of potential targets.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate has been tipped for the Palace job thanks to his connections with the club where he maintains strong relations.

Work towards identifying their next permanent boss is well underway, but they are also keen to capitalise on situations including Frank’s departure.
