Thomas Tuchel backed to be new Tottenham manager as ‘trigger’ plan revealed – pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested Thomas Tuchel could replace Antonio Conte as Tottenham boss.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Conte is “not safe” at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

According to the Evening Standard (19 January), Tuchel would be interested in replacing Conte if he leaves the club in the coming months.

Antonio Conte looks on during his time as Tottenham manager

The Italian has come under scrutiny following a poor run of performances and has refused to commit to Spurs beyond the end of the season when his contract expires.

The London club have the option to trigger a 12-month extension to his deal in the summer if they wish.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea in September and is said to be ready to return to football.

When asked if the former Blues boss would be a good replacement for Conte if he doesn’t extend his stay, McAvennie told Football Insider:I think Thomas Tuchel would be up for any job because he is unemployed at the moment.

I thought he did well at Chelsea. He won trophies he did well and spent money then they sacked him. It does not make any sense to me.

He is a good manager. I hate talking about people when they are still in a job and Conte is still there.

It will be Conte’s decision but I do not think he is safe. Conte calling them out might just be the trigger for that.
