‘Thomas Tuchel has to start this Newcastle star’ – Toon Army demand surprise England call-up
Newcastle cruised to an easy 3-0 victory over PSV on Wednesday in the Champions League.
Multiple players were fantastic for Eddie Howe, as Yoane Wissa ran the show at St James’ Park with a goal and an assist.
However, the striker wasn’t the only top performer, with Harvey Barnes also putting in a great display for Newcastle.
The winger netted the hosts’ third in what proved to be a memorable night under the lights.
Now, with the World Cup just around the corner, many Magpies supporters are calling for Barnes to make the plane in the summer.
Newcastle fans call for Harvey Barnes to receive England recall
Barnes has forced his way back into Newcastle’s starting XI recently after a wonderful turn of form.
Previously, Barnes had been linked away from Newcastle after struggling for consistent starts at St James’ Park.
The winger has proven to be a reliable goal threat in 2026, with Barnes netting two goals against Leeds in a 4-3 victory at the start of the year.
The 28-year-old only has one cap for the Three Lions to date as he came off the bench late on in a 3-0 victory over Wales in 2020. However, since then, he has struggled to work his way back into the squad.
Now, after his latest excellent display, Newcastle fans are calling for the winger to be recalled to the England setup, as he continues to find the back of the net.
Surely Hall and Barnes will be in the next England squad

Both could have a serious chance of going to the World Cup if they stay fit and keep up their current form #NUFC
Harvey Barnes should be first on the teamsheet – for #NUFC and #England.

Without a doubt Harvey Barnes should be in the next England squad!

If Barnes doesn’t get his chance for England it would be a travesty in my opinion.

If I were Tuchel, I would be taking Barnes to the WC

He can play both wings and the lad can finish.
Even at the expense of Gordon, who only wants to play on one wing.
Thought Gordon was better today.#NUFC
Barnes has 5 NPG’s and 4 of Gordon’s goals are pens. Both should be in the England squad! ⚫️⚪️

How good was Barnes against PSV?
Barnes certainly put in an eye-catching performance against PSV.
According to Fotmob on 22 January, on top of his goal, he also created one chance, won all of his aerial duels, and completed 78 per cent of his passes.
On top of this, he also helped out defensively, completing five recoveries overall.
| Harvey Barnes’ stats vs PSV | |
| Minutes | 90 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Shots | 1 |
| Chances created | 1 |
| Passing completion | 78% |
| Aerial duels won | 100% |
| Recoveries | 5 |
Given the opponent, this was no easy feat, with PSV already beating Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield this campaign.
Therefore, surely Barnes will have a shot at being called up for the upcoming friendlies England have before the World Cup.
Here, Tomas Tuchel could have the opportunity to assess the winger before he makes the final decision about his squad.
However, if Barnes is to get this call-up, he must continue his current rich vein of form for the foreseeable future.
