Thomas Tuchel to Man United: Keith Wyness shares instant reaction

Man United may face a tough prospect enticing a top manager to replace Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is unsure whether England manager Thomas Tuchel would want the vacant Man United job.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is the front-runner for the Man United position, with Darren Fletcher currently in charge on an interim basis.

Tuchel’s contract with England expires after the World Cup this summer, and the German has been backed for a return to the Premier League after a previous spell in charge of Chelsea.

Keith Wyness names potential conders for Man United job

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Man United need to recruit a “bigger figure” than former boss Amorim.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has questioned whether Tuchel would come to Old Trafford.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, again, this comes down to politics to a degree, and we’ll go on to talk about other clubs that have been moving around just now, but it does come down to what people are looking for.

“Is it really going to be a coach who’s going to be more of a, not a yes man necessarily, but really stick to just coaching the squad and be given the players, or whether they do want a bigger figure? Now at Man United, you need bigger figures because you’re managing bigger players.

“And so I do think it’s going to be important as to who they pick. Now the other names that have been mentioned, the Tuchel’s. I mean if he was to win the World Cup would he come to Man United? I don’t see that happening. Gareth Southgate’s been mentioned, I don’t know. I mean Carlo Ancelotti is there, and [Zinedine] Zidane.”

Man United could be hit by transfer blow

Man United still have a chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and it could be crucial for the next manager in the transfer market.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League could hit Man United’s transfer budget, with Amorim having spent over £200million during his time in charge.

Man United have no revenue from European competition this season, and selling star players may be required in the future.
