‘Thoughts and prayers with you’ – Rangers fans react as ex-Ger critically ill in hospital after fall

Former Rangers and Aberdeen star Neale Cooper is critically ill in hospital after being discovered in the early hours of Sunday morning following a fall – and Gers fans have been quick to send messages of support to the 54-year-old.

According to the BBC, Cooper was found in the stairwell of a block of flats in the Bucksburn area of Aberdeen early on Sunday and is critically ill.

Cooper managed Peterhead, Ross County, Hartlepool United and Gillingham and played with Aston Villa, Rangers, Reading, Dunfermline Athletic and Ross County the Dons during his career and was part of the Aberdeen side who lifted the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1983 – the last team to beat Real Madrid in a European final.

Gers fans have sent support to Cooper and his family as new broke of his illness – with one saying he was never a “quitter as a player” and didn’t expect he would give up now as he fights for his life in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Cooper spent two years at Ibrox between 1988 and 1990 but injuries restricted his opportunities under Graeme Souness and he returned to Pittodrie after only 17 appearances in the league for the Light Blues.
