Three Celtic players who must be axed for clash v Ross County: 25-year-old among trio needing demotion

Stuart Armstrong

Nobody will argue that Armstrong had put in a series of fantastic displays for club and country in the run up to the PSG game but the 25-year-old was invisible last night.

Subbed at half-time for Aussie Tom Rogic, Armstrong contributed nothing in the first-half and should be embarrassed at his performance.

Playing in a central midfield three with Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham, the game simply passed Armstrong by as Adrien Rabiot pulled the strings for PSG in midfield.

With James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Rogic all waiting in the wings to take Armstrong’s place, Brendan Rodgers isn’t short of alternatives when Jim McIntyre’s County come to Celtic Park.

Earlier this summer, Rodgers claimed that transfer speculation was affecting Armstrong’s performances but, after agreeing to a new long-term contract, that excuse no longer washes.

Armstrong will still be a big player for Celtic this season as his class will undoubtedly shine through but, short term at least, a change might do everyone some good.
