Three contenders to replace Kieran Trippier at Newcastle include history-making talent

Kieran Trippier has entered the final year of his contract as Newcastle scramble to find his replacement.

Sources told Football Insider on 6 October that Eddie Howe is pushing Newcastle to offer Trippier a new deal.

Trippier is keen on signing a new contract with Newcastle yet the former Bournemouth manager cannot presume both parties will come to an agreement.

Moreover, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson exclusively told Football Insider on 18 August that Trippier would likely leave Newcastle on a free next summer.

This prediction could soon become a reality as Football Insider picks out three right-back replacements the Magpies have to consider to replace the England international.

Ben White

The former Brighton man has suffered a major drop-off in minutes since the arrival of Jurrien Timber at the Emirates.

The Englishman picked up just 1,558 minutes last season, less than half of his game time in the 2023-24 campaign (4,086).

Moreover, Arsenal could be facing sanctions from UEFA and the Premier League due to their heavy spending last summer.

The pressure to adhere to financial rules could force the Gunners into selling the 27-year-old who would certainly be open to a move to St James’ Park.

With Champions League and English top-flight experience, bringing in Ben White could be a shrewd bit of business for the Toon.

Daniel Carvajal

The Madrista has done it all with los Blancos, winning Champions Leagues and La Ligas as well as excelling on the international stage.

Yet, a serious injury problem that ruled him out of much of the 2024-25 season and with one-year left on his contract, this suggests Daniel Carvajal may be on his way out of Real Madrid.

Considering Newcastle breached financial rules in the previous transfer window, the board will be keen to be much tighter with their spending next summer.

The free agent market will likely be heavily exploited and the Spaniard offers himself as an experienced right-back capable of stepping up in the Premier League, aiding the club’s PSR concerns.

The number two’s injury record may be cause for concern for Howe, but there is a reassurance that Tino Livramento can continue his superb Newcastle career long into the future to provide depth at right-back.

James Tavernier

The Magpies have a track record of bringing former youth talent back to St James’ Park years later.

Dan Burn is a prime example of this, having been initially released by Newcastle when he was 11-years-old only to play for his boyhood club over a decade later.

James Tavernier also fits the bill having featured for the Toon twice once he was promoted from the youth set-up before embarking on five loan spells.

The 33-year-old excelled at Rangers when he moved in July 2015 and his goalscoring prestige saw him rewrite the history books as the top scoring English defender of all-time with 131 goals.

The ex-Bristol City right-back is out of contract next summer and with European competition experience, a homecoming to Tyneside could be an astute piece of business.
