Hang your heads: Three Leeds players who most let Christiansen down – The Verdict
Jay-Roy Grot
Oops. What other word is there for the over-riding transfer blunder of a whirlwind summer in which the dizzying number of new arrivals for the senior and Under-23s squads took some tracking? Grot is young – he does not turn 20 until next month – but he is no freebie or bargain buy. A Holland Under-20 international, he arrived for a fee rising to a potential £1.5million and was expected to at least offer a useful spearhead alternative to Pierre-Michel Lasogga and company. It has not proved to be the case. Sixteen appearances, most as a substitute, yielded no goals and an alarming number of mis-controls and wonky passes. Christiansen worked out that the Dutchman was not up to it and dumped him into the youth team last month.
