Three Leeds players sweating over first-team spot during international break – opinion

Felix Wiedwald

Wiedwald arrived at Leeds from Werder Bremen in the summer and instantly replaced Rob Green as the No 1 choice goalkeeper at Elland Road, but his performances of late haven’t given many cause for optimism.

The German shot-stopper, 27, is not commanding his box enough and without someone like Liam Cooper or Pontus Jansson in the backline, the Whites concede a lot of goals.

Defenders should never solely rely on their goalkeeper and goalkeepers should never solely rely on their defence, and that is what is happening at Leeds at the minute.

Andy Lonergan isn’t a bad back-up option to Wiedwald and he may be worth giving a shot in the first-team in the coming fixtures.
