Davies could be destroyed: Three Liverpool players to cause havoc against Tottenham

COMMENT by Amir Mir

Football Insider identifies the three Liverpool players that would cause havoc against Tottenham during their Premier League clash on Saturday at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently 13 points behind league leaders Chelsea in the table and a defeat against Spurs would all but end their faint hopes of lifting the English crown.

These are the three Reds players who could help the German record a valuable three points at the weekend:

Sadio Mane

There is no doubt that whilst Mane was away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Liverpool missed his extra pace and power in the final third. His explosive runs can provide Klopp with that added threat and the Senegal international will be looking to do that against Spurs. The 24-year-old will most likely come up against left-back Ben Davies with first team regular Danny Rose out injured. There is no doubt that if Mane can get in a one-on-one situation with Davies then the attacker will absolutely destroy him.

Roberto Firmino

Playing at home has been extremely difficult for the Merseyside club in recent weeks, most notably losing to the likes of Swansea and Wolves in the FA Cup. Mauricio Pochettino’ side will come to Anfield and play a little more, but they will still be extremely difficult to break down. Therefore, having a player of Firmino’s quality in your team, where with one touch, he can create that extra bit of space that could prove to be the difference on the night. Spurs boast the best defensive record in the league. But, Firmino has the ability to pick out that match-winning pass and be that difference maker his manager requires.

Jordan Henderson

Amongst the pace and silky touch of his attacking teammates, the Reds will need a player of Henderson’s quality in the middle of the park. Pochettino’s side will have powerhouses such as Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele motoring in midfield. Therefore, the thunder-bolt nature and energetic style of the England international will be needed if Liverpool are to pick up all three points. The likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen will be dangerous on the night, but Henderson’s tough tackling could stop them from causing an under-performing Reds defensive line any problems.
