Three Liverpool stars who Arne Slot must axe vs West Ham to save his job

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is facing serious doubts over his position in charge after their latest crushing defeat against PSV in midweek.

Liverpool‘s form went from bad to worse against PSV on Wednesday (26 November) as they were thrashed 4-1 on home turf in the Champions League.

They have now lost each of their last three games in the league and Europe by a margin of three goals as talk around Arne Slot‘s future intensifies.

Numerous Liverpool players are believed to be unhappy with the manager right now, but he is due to remain in charge for a must-win clash against West Ham this Sunday (30 November).

Slot could well be sacked if he loses in East London, however, and Football Insider have picked out three players who he must drop from the starting eleven to give his side the best chance of a much-needed win.

Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo has struggled for form this season after becoming Liverpool’s first-choice left-winger following Luis Diaz’s exit.

He has now failed to score or assist in his last six games for the club following the PSV clash, during which he missed a big chance, had a 25% dribble success rate, 33% cross success rate and won just three of his eight ground duels.

Slot has Federico Chiesa and even young Rio Ngumoha who he could call upon in place of the Dutchman, and either of them would be better options against West Ham’s slow defence on Sunday.

Ibrahima Konate

The talk around Ibrahima Konate‘s future seems to have affected his performances this season, with many Reds supporters criticising him week-in, week-out right now.

Liverpool fans fumed at Konate after his performance against Man City earlier this month, yet he has surprisingly continued to start games next to Virgil van Dijk despite them conceding 10 goals in the last three games.

The PSV horror show should be the final straw for Slot regarding Konate in the team, after his mistake led to their third goal and he was taken off immediately after.

Giorgi Mamardashvili

The Liverpool boss has been forced to play Giorgi Mamardashvili more than he would have liked this season due to Alisson‘s constant unavailability.

He was forced out of Wednesday’s game through illness after recovering from a muscle injury to play against Forest, but should be fit enough to feature against the Hammers this weekend.

Mamardashvili has not filled the Reds’ defence with any confidence when he has featured, despite not dropping any huge clangers, but Alisson has to be restored to the team once more at West Ham, as he is the better goalkeeper in every aspect.
