Three players Tottenham must axe vs Fulham to save Thomas Frank more fan anger

Tottenham’s efforts proved fruitless in midweek against PSG as they were beaten 5-3 in a Champions League thriller.

Tottenham‘s recent displays have raised concerns that Thomas Frank is not the right man to lead the club forward just a few months after his arrival from Brentford amid growing mutiny from the club’s fanbase at the team’s results and style of play.

They were well-beaten by arch-rivals Arsenal last weekend, and suffered another tough defeat to PSG on Wednesday (26 November) evening in the French capital.

Goals from Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani had put Spurs ahead twice in the game, but the hosts’ quality prevailed as they scored four in the second-half to seal the win.

Frank’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, and Football Insider have picked out three players that he must drop from his starting eleven this weekend for a must-win clash versus Fulham.

Pape Sarr

Pape Sarr‘s performances have been wholly inconsistent this season, and Frank is clearly not convinced if he is the right man for his midfield system having started him in six of their 12 league games so far.

Wednesday night provided one of the toughest tests of all for the 23-year-old against some top players, and Sarr was blasted by Tottenham fans for a dismal showing that saw him commit two errors leading to PSG goals.

It is a no-brainer for Frank to drop him to the bench this Saturday (29 November), especially after two impressive performances from youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Djed Spence

Djed Spence has had a decent season for Spurs so far, but it was not his night against PSG and he also struggled to contain Leandro Trossard against Arsenal last weekend.

He has been equally adept at playing in either full-back role recently, yet put in a poor showing on the left side in Paris as he had 71% pass accuracy, did not complete an accurate cross from four attempts, was dispossessed twice and just three of nine duels.

Frank has decent depth in his position now with players back fit, and Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro should be his full-back pairing as they look to attack the struggling Cottagers this weekend.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur did not do terribly against PSG, but the strong performances of both Gray and Bergvall, and the influence of Joao Palhinha so far this season should mean he drops out of the team this weekend.

Tottenham already want to sign Palhinha permanently, so good has he been since his summer loan move from Bayern Munich.

The youthful quality and intensity that both Gray and Bergvall played with against PSG must be replicated versus Fulham, and so with both players deserving of successive starts, it is Palhinha who must come in for Bentancur to add some improved defensive steel and experience to Frank’s side.
