Three players Wolves must sign in January to escape Premier League relegation

Wolves are preparing intense talks over their January transfer business with the club languishing at the bottom of the Premier League.

Vitor Pereira retained the backing of the Wolves board despite a wretched start to the 2025-26 season.

The Wanderers sit rock bottom of the league and are the only side yet to register a win from the first seven matches.

Jhon Arias joined Wolves from Fluminese over the summer yet is one of the many signings who have failed to make an impact.

As per Lyall Thomas via X (8 October), the Portuguese manager is set to be in talks with the Molineux superiors over the club’s January transfer plans as Football Insider reveals the key assets they must target.

Harry Wilson – Fulham

With the Colombian maestro stumbling in his debut season in the English top-flight, Pereira must turn his attention to solving the right-hand side.

Sources told Football Insider that Fulham are doing everything they can to keep Harry Wilson at Craven Cottage by signing a new contract.

The Wales international is set to walk away from the club as free agent in the summer and with no new deal surfacing, the Wanderers could pounce on the opportunity.

The 28-year-old has just one goal in nine matches this season, yet has been struggling with niggling injuries and competition on the right flank.

Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze is expected to steal more minutes away from the ex-Bournemouth winger which could prevent any further contract talks.

The Cottagers may then opt to cash in on the Liverpool academy graduate before he leaves on a free next summer, opening a golden opportunity for Wolves to strike.

Kalvin Phillips – Man City

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man City will look to sell Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window.

Since arriving in July 2022, the Englishman has endured a horrid spell at the Etihad after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola.

Unsuccessful loan spells to West Ham and Ipswich did little to turn around his career prospects and now the 29-year-old is desperate to find a new home.

Looking at Wolves’ midfield, Andre and Joao Gomes are both capable of running from box to box yet Pereira is missing that deep-lying midfielder.

The former Leeds academy graduate could be precisely what the club needs to provide solidity in front of the defence as well as playing stunning long balls to ignite counterattacks.

Dwight McNeil – Everton

Prior to his lengthy spell on the sidelines midway through the 2024-25 campaign, Dwight McNeil was quietly reaching new heights in Everton colours.

The Englishman experienced a purple patch under previous manager Sean Dyche in a new creative role, racking up three goals and three assists in six appearances near the start of last season.

Yet, a brutal injury saw his season brought to a halt with David Moyes then adding more attacking talent in the summer to strengthen the position.

This has seen the former Burnley winger fall down the pecking order with Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall keeping him out of the team.

The 25-year-old still has much to offer and could be the key to unlocking Jorgen Strand Larsen’s clinical nature, given he remains goalless from five games in the Premier League.

Pereira should also consider the Toffees’ poor PSR situation and how they would be willing to part with McNeil for possibly a lower price than anticipated.
