Axe first team mainstay: Three reasons Jonjo Shelvey should start v Brighton
Axe Ayoze Perez
One man who has enjoyed a long run in the starting XI is former Tenerife man Ayoze Perez, but it is time for Benitez to axe the mainstay in favour of Shelvey.
The attacking midfielder is a hard worker but has offered very little end product, with just a solitary assist to his name so far this season.
Currently operating in the playmaker role just behind the striker, it would be more beneficial for Benitez to slot Shelvey in there.
In such a role, Shelvey could dictate play from an advanced position, utilising his vision to move the ball quickly and effectively around the Brighton defensive.
Furthermore, in such a role his defensive responsibility would be diminished, lessening the chance of another violent outburst from the 25-year-old.
In other Newcastle United news, Jamaal Lascelles has given his strong opinion on his fellow team mate.
