Drop the axe: Three reasons Newcastle must swoop for reported wantaway PL bench warmer

Desperate for action – music to Benitez’s ears

Sergio Romero has stepped in to replace the injured David de Gea

The Mail’s report states that Romero is fed up of sitting behind De Gea in the pecking order, and recognises that he has no chance of usurping the Spaniard.

He has just four appearances under his belt this season, and is desperate to see himself handed more game time.

It is said that he would even be willing to drop to a club whose stature is not at the same level as Manchester United, which will be music to Benitez’s ears.

The opportunity to continue playing in the Premier League, where he has made just six appearances, would be a huge draw, as would the chance to play under the Spanish boss.
