Embarrassed star must be axed: Three things learned about Newcastle in clash v Watford
Attack non-existent
Newcastle could have played with nine men and it would have had no effect – that is how ineffectual the striking duo of Dwight Gayle and Joselu were against Watford.
The theory behind their selection is that the Spaniard offers a physical presence while Gayle can feed off the ball which come his way, but that simply was not happening at St James’ Park.
Their presence on the team sheet was more a formality than anything, and Aleksandar Mitrovic should be fuming that the manager took so long to make a change.
Changes, both tactically and in the transfer market, need to be a priority after this shambles of a display.
