The Magpies’ recent run of fixtures, minus the trip to Old Trafford, would have been viewed by Rafa Benitez as a prime opportunity to pick up points, whether through wins or draws.
However, four games, against Burnley, Bournemouth, Manchester United and Watford, have resulted in nothing, and after the midweek clash against West Brom, the quality of opposition goes up a notch, with home clashes against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in December.
Fail to win against the Baggies and it could be a miserable Christmas period for the Toon Army, which in turn could see them slip dangerously close to the foot of the table ahead of the new year.
