Not one summer signing started the clash and with a lack of reinforcements so far in the January window, the Magpies are lucky to be sitting outside the relegation zone.
The Spanish manager will be joined by the entirety of the Toon Army in knowing that winter signings are almost a necessity, but the final decision lies with owner Mike Ashley – a fact which will strike fear into the hearts of the Newcastle faithful.
