Newcastle fans will be leaving St James’ Park knowing that they should have secured three points against the basement club.
The Magpies were firmly in the ascendancy for the opening 45 minutes and could, and perhaps should, have been out of sight had their forwards put away a host of well worked chances.
Instead they went into the half time break at 0-0 and there would have been real worries that the visitors would be stealing a win after Jordan Ayew’s opener.
Joselu saved his team mates’ blushes but Benitez and everyone on Tyneside will know one point should have been three.
