Three things learned about Newcastle v West Ham: Summer signing deserved the axe
COMMENT
Newcastle United ended their run of abysmal form with a 3-2 win away at West Ham on Saturday.
The Magpies found themselves behind after just six minutes, Marko Arnautovic stealing the ball from a poor Henri Saivet pass on halfway before storming towards goal and striking the ball past Rob Elliot.
However the Newcastle midfielder, making his first league appearance of the season, made up for his mistake just minutes later, striking a free kick up and over the West Ham wall and past the outstretched hand of Adrian to level the scores, with what was his first ever goal for the Magpies.
Christian Atsu and Mohamed Diame went on to net for the visitors, before Andre Ayew, who had seen a penalty saved by Rob Elliot, netted to make it 3-2 and set up a nervy finish for both sides, but it was the Magpies who snatched the three points.
Newcastle came into the match on the back of a nine game winless run, a streak which had garnered just a solitary point from a possible 27, leaving them languishing in the relegation zone, a position which the Hammers had occupied in recent weeks before a resurgence of form.
So what can fans take away from the clash at the London Stadium?
