Three things learned about Newcastle v West Ham: Summer signing deserved the axe
Lejeune deserved the axe
Manager Rafael Benitez chose to make five changes to his side, many enforced as a result of injury or suspension, but one man who was axed out of what was seemingly previous performances was Florian Lejeune.
The summer signing has been the preferred partner of Jamaal Lascelles in recent weeks but against the Hammers it was Ciaran Clark who was given the nod, and he outshone the French defender with his display.
Aside from conceding the penalty, which was a free kick wrongly awarded but subsequently saved, Clark was outstanding at the back and Lejeune faces a real fight to return to the starting line up.
In other Newcastle United news, the club are expected to make an official move for a 13-goal hot shot.
