26-year-old is a huge miss: Three things learned about Rangers in win v Fraserburgh

There is no ‘romance’ in the cup anymore

Rangers
In British football the ‘romance of the cup’ is one of those well-worn football clichés that have been around longer than anyone can remember but if the Gers’ trip to Fraserburgh proved anything, it’s that the ‘romance’ is dead.
Whether it was the hundreds of Rangers fans who were locked out of tiny Bellslea Park after counterfeit tickets were circulated; the dismal 90 minutes that were broadcast to a UK-wide audience or the eight-foot metal barriers the police installed outside the stadium, what should have been a “classic” cup clash between a footballing giant and one of the game’s minnows turned into an experience everyone is glad is over.
Big clubs going to tiny grounds used to be something for fans to savour and make a day of but now the whole thing is spoiled by over-zealous policing, shoddy scheduling and ham-fisted organisation.
With fans turning growing more and more apathetic towards cup competitions something needs to be done to bring the “romance” back.
